bringing Small Talk Antidote to Burlington
Too often the conversations we have with people don’t quite cross the permeable boundary from ‘passing time’ to ‘enriching & expansive.’ I feel that doula-ing conversations across that line is one of my soul-purpose gifts.
Small talk antidote was virtual last winter, and so much fun. It was profound, and deepening, and connective, and interweaving, and just so jittery-exciting to facilitate a wildly authentic group of people as they navigated delicious, juicy conversations in the most tender way.
This year, we are doing it live! In person! At a super cool, cute, and delightful local third space — a centrally located restaurant who just got taken over by a new owner who is deeply interested in providing a nesting place for rad Burlington communities to come and organize and convene and play.
As you may know, I used to be a high school humanities teacher. The truth is, I was in it mostly for the philosophical dialogues. I geek out, get so so giddy, and just generally feel freaking alive when I facilitate meaningful dialogue. I feel like the fabric of the space-time continuum is opening up, and a portal to another dimension is revealed, and everyone gets an opportunity to take a little step through.
I feel like portal is opened because meaningful dialogue leads to juicy, tantalizing questions. Profound questions lead to paradigm shifts. Paradigm shifts lead to new, expansive ways of looking at the world. And that, right there, is my passion. As well as helping create containers where deep, meaningful connections can be made between beings - whether that be human-human or human-nonhuman connections.
Additionally, I simply think profound and neuro-plasticity expanding conversations are fun. Like, that is one of my definitions of fun. Ask me a deep question that makes me really think; that is FUN. Like, I also think that dancing and yelling and skiing and watching movies are fun. But I also really really really enjoy profound and thought provoking conversations.
I have so much fun facilitating these.
I get to be the best part of my teacher self, while not adhering to any of the institutional oversight authoritative requirements that schools made me comply with. I don’t have to grade anything. I don’t have to assign mandatory reading (though I will likely give optional reading). And I don’t have to mark your attendance. Also, we can talk about anything.
If you know anyone in Burlington who might be into this, please spread the word!
Revolution Kitchen (/Zen Den) will be an amazing place to convene and hang out after, with optional snacks for purchase.
Hope to see you there : )
